Membership Site Pitfalls and How to Avoid Them

Unreliable Membership Site. Members will find your site incompetent and dull when you fail to present quality content or product on a daily basis. It will lead to desertion because of their discontent. To avoid this, you need to put great effort and emphasis on providing content that your members need. You should put in a top priority since content is the primary reason why they joined your membership site in the first place. If you are too busy on other matters, then you can turn on outsourcing free lancers to do the job. It is a great challenge though, on choosing the right ones that are fit for the job. To avoid any regret, you can engage them on a trial test so you would know their capabilities. This way you can sort out the right ones for the job.

Too much Information. Sometimes we are so occupied of providing satisfaction to our members, that we commit the mistake of providing too much. Members get disoriented on enormous materials provided by the membership site; they get confused on how they would handle it. To avoid this you need to be sensitive on dealing with your members. Never assume on their level of knowledge and capability. You can ask each one of them on how they should be handled in terms of content delivery. You can also guide them, step by step, in using the product. You should constantly check if they are satisfied with the content that you are providing them.

Content Management System

Failure to control abusive members. Let's face it. A membership site is never a perfect community. There are members that are just pain in the ass. Membership sites are victims to abusive members who use one-time credit cards; those who sign up, down load everything, and then cancel immediately; there are also those who share their log info. The best way is to be vigilant on these matters. You have to punish these kinds of members. You can black list them so you can avoid having them as your costumer in the future. You can also down load protection softwares to prevent members from sharing their download materials.

System of payment. Membership sites should have a fluid system of payment. Some members may be misled to the thought that they are risking payment each month if they receive unreliable content. You can answer this by providing them with free trial for one month. You can then bill them the second month if they continue their membership. This way, your members will feel a sense of security. Your system should also answer the problem on expired credit cards. How are you going to solve this problem then? You can do this by installing a software management that would send an email to your members to inform them if their credit card expires. It will ask them to update their credit card. They will regain access to the membership site once they have revealed valid credit card details.

Loss of harmony. A membership site, I believe, is just like any other social group. It requires constant communication necessary for building trust and understanding. Being honest and modest to your members would count a great deal. You should be sensitive on inquiring your member's conditions from time to time; if their needs are still being coped up. A little care for your members would always be beneficial for your site. Don't you agree?
